Grandma Gets Ready To Hand Over Her Tools
Newcastle Herald
Tuesday July 22, 2008
AFTER 15 years working as a volunteer in the gardens at West Wallsend Public School, grandmother Mrs Venice Adams is hoping other people are ready to take on the role.
Mrs Adams, who has been gardening since she was a little girl, has been a wonderful inspiration to children at the school. When Mrs Adams's granddaughter, Andrea, started kindergarten, she saw a note in the school newsletter, The Westy Whisper, asking for volunteers to garden at the school. She said that one of the most enjoyable things about gardening was having time to chat to the children and teachers. "I have been gardening at the school now for 15 years," Mrs Adams said."Unfortunately I had to retire. Luckily there has been interest from other people to take over from where I have left off. "I will enjoy giving the new gardener my special garden tips."
